the case for veganism

the herbivore handbook

the basic argument

case

If animals can suffer and want to avoid harm, their suffering matters. If we can avoid funding systems that breed, confine, exploit, and kill them for nonessential reasons, then avoiding those systems is a moral responsibility.

Veganism is not about being perfect. It is about refusing to treat animals as products when alternatives are possible.

the hinge question

reflection

If taste, habit, convenience, or tradition would not justify harming a dog or cat, why would they justify harming a pig, cow, chicken, fish, or sheep?
